The Studio Meridional project is a self-managed space dedicated to art, science and culture in Marseille, France. It is reserved for artistic creation and co-development. It is open to all authors working in the fields of visual arts, literature, science, and cinema who need to develop a specific project in this city.

Manifesto

Studio Meridional is a temporary creative residency. It draws inspiration from a deep desire to find new forms of cultural cooperation and to inhabit the world differently. The project emerges as a response to the dominant cultural model and as a reaction to the manifestly insufficient international residency circuit.

Studio Meridional is an autonomous, self-managed, and informal project dedicated to art, science, and culture. It is reserved for research, artistic creation, co-development, and a certain [utopian] idea of sharing life among authors.

Studio Meridional is a dual territory. It is a studio and a home space for individuals who wish to circulate their ideas, express their thoughts, and activate their projects in a collaborative, pluralistic, polymorphic, and non-discriminatory dialogue space. It is also a place where one seeks silence, the agitation of intellectual peace, respect for the rhythm of others’ lives (idiorythmy), care for personal space, and care for the plants that inhabit it.

Studio Meridional is inseparable from encounters with others, the creation of networks among authors, and the productive development of the arts. Its program – always work in progress – is revealed through the duration and intensity of each proposal, as well as through the desire, fulfillment, joy, will, and enthusiasm of the resident author. Studio Meridional and the resident author thus form an alliance of circumstantial cooperation, expressed verbally, sincerely, and informedly. In this alliance, the author acknowledges having read this manifesto and adheres to its founding principles.
